If you are headed to Boston, or if you’ve lived in Boston for a while but are a lazy landlubber, get thy dry butt to the water, pronto!
Boston’s infamous harbor has now evolved to be inspiring.
On land, the Harbor boasts a gorgeous, sculpture-filled “Harbor Walk” which is so long and exciting that it makes for a great field trip or date. But the real thrill begins when you hop aboard a vessel and set sail… or motor!
There are an enormous variety of ways to rock out Boston Harbor and its islands, from a super-cheap commuter shuttle which jets you from Boston to Charlestown Navy yard, to various types and prices of craft to boop and bop about the Harbor Islands and beyond.
Every time I’ve boated in Boston Harbor, it’s been the best. Why? Here are some reasons, in pictoral form, from my most recent watery escapade: a two-hour Tall Ship sunset sailing cruise of the Harbor (with a half-price coupon)!

A boat is the perfect escape from your ordinary life: see it all, bobbing beautifully, from a distance!

The Boston Harbor looks beautiful. The crane looks like a huge robot. The city looks so pretty from the harbor. I love going to islands in the Boston Harbor. I have went to almost every island in the Boston Island. The boat I went on is different. My boat was more like a ferry. Your boat has sails and it looks smaller.
These photos reminded me of the last time I went to an island in the Boston Harbor. I went to Long Island and I remember the boat ride since my friends and I took many pictures on the boat of us and of the great scenery that we could see while we were on the boat!
This sounds like fun. We should go on a cruise as a field trip!
I want to go on a boat cruise but I am scared that the titanic will happen again and I don’t want to die so I think I will pass.
these pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!!
how you capture every sight seems like a profetional took them…
I’m guessing that photography is one of you hobby(ies)
“The weather system is often different on shore, causing fabulous clouds.” I can make a huge personal connection to this because I’ve actually gotten the opportunity to witness the beautiful clouds in the skies. I also got the chance to watch the sunset. It’s a beautiful thing to watch! It’s so interesting! This is a very descriptive article. I would recommended someone visiting Boston Harbor. It’s a life changing experience.
Is this place really Boston? I have never seen such a sight. I would love to go on a habor cruise it looks so fun and I want to the the good side of Boston.
Yes! Do it! If you want to get the experience for very little money, take the T to the Aquarium stop on the Blue line (or walk from Downtown) and get on the T Ferry to Charlestown Navy Yard. (If you can’t find where it leaves from, just keep asking people until you find it.) It costs something like $2, and though it isn’t as long as a 2-hour cruise, you get such a pretty view for a short ride. You can either take the ferry back for a round trip, or there are a few buses that go back downtown from Charlestown. Let me know if you do it!
This is why I’m happy to be a travel blogger who is now based in Boston for much of the year: I can now help people enjoy all the miraculous secrets of this fine city!

Harbor, and I want to see the good side of boston.
Yay for editing and proofreading
Ms. Marshall, this looks amazing, and I just happen be increasing my time in Boston. That said, how does one get that half-price (student friendly?) ticket?
Glad you’re hangin’ here more often! We got this discount through either Groupon or Buy With Me, but there are likely other discounts floating around. I know there’s a half-price ticket stall in Quincy Market as well as Copley Square, so you can check that out, though it may only be for shows. Yay!
I guess Boston’s a pretty cool place to live after all. I added the last picture as my computer background, and I’ve also been on a cruise of Boston.
Ms Marshall i loved this article it made me feel like i was there if i didnt live in boston
What a beautiful view! Thanks for this post – I have yet to make it to Boston, but your post will help when we go! Harbor cruise on the agenda now…
