Starting Our Belize Honeymoon Flying on a VERY Small Plane!

Flying into Ambergris Caye, Belize on a TINY plane!

Flying into Ambergris Caye, Belize on a TINY plane!

First things first: We had the best wedding ever!!!! Photos will take several weeks to compile, however, so in the meantime, be content with luscious photos from our 2-week Belize Honeymoon.

And please don’t demand (as several well-meaning souls have already) that I stop writing during my Honeymoon. If I hated writing, I would stop, but our Honeymoon philosophy is that of Cartman from South Park, “I do what I want!” and writing gives me great joy.

So trust, dear readers, that we are fully taking advantage of all that Belize has to offer, AND reveling in a few hours each day of online work (on our private balcony gazing out across the infinity pool to the azure ocean). Ok? Ok.

The inside of the Tropic Air flight was the size of a small van. I took this photo from the back seat.

The inside of our Tropic Air flight was the size of a small van. I took this photo from the back seat, trembling with fear and the beauty.

Here are the 3 distinct parts of our Honeymoon you can look forward to reading about:

For the first third, we are on the stunning island of Ambergris Caye and are graciously hosted in one of the most beautiful hotels of Belize in San Pedro. We shall be snorkeling on a day-long boat expedition, strolling through the bustling town, and eating heartily. Mmm.

Next, we head into the lush green interior of the country, San Ignacio, where we are hosted by a luxury resort in Belize’s jungle known for its decor, cuisine, and expeditions to the many surrounding Mayan ruins. Thrilling!

Finally, we head south to the miles-long peninsula of beaches at Placencia and stay at one of the top oceanfront villas in Belize. We anticipate ridiculously long, sandy beaches, seafood, and sights to swoon for. Yay!

The stunning view of Belize's islands from our tiny plane.

Belize’s islands and the Caribbean from our teeny plane.

Excited? We are, too, and we’re LOVING the sweet country of Belize so far.

So, how did we get to this first paradise island, Ambergris Caye?

It’s dramatic, people, dramatic: a VEEEERY SMALL PLANE over the Caribbean Sea!

This is a particularly fitting detail if you remember the crazy fourth date Colin took me on: a flying lesson on a terrifying 4-person plane.

Just like on our date, I was trembling like a palm frond in a tropical storm as we boarded the teensy plane.

The interior was so small that I couldn’t even sit next to my new husband (HUSBAND?!) on the mini plane, which was probably good for him because I have a tendency to squeeze his hand so hard that it bruises when I’m nervous.

The sea has so many beautiful variations!

The sea has so many beautiful variations!

But people, let me tell you: as the baby plane whirred its rotating propeller and miraculously lifted off the ground, the beauty took over all fear.

“It’s a tour unto itself!” cooed the lady sitting next to me.

“Mmmmm…” I agreed, heart fluttering with love for such a precious view.

As you gaze at these photos, perhaps you will agree.

Stay tuned for updates from Belize, and keep the suggestions and connections coming!

Sounds like your honeymoon was amazing! I'm off to Belize tomorrow...starting in Caye Caulker, Hopkins, then San Ignacio...really looking forward to checking out the ruins and the ATM caves! I definitely won't be getting into any tiny planes though, I'm a terrible flyer, so overland it is for me!

Good on you, Lillie. Though it would be nice, people don't have to "get it" for you to enjoy doing "...what you want."

That is a tiny plane! What great views! And don't worry, I wrote during my honeymoon, too. :)

I love this! Great photos and GREAT attitude about the continued blogging. I'm one of the people who gets it--there's no way I could stop writing during traveling. That would be like...not breathing while running. Have a GREAT time, and I look forward to many more stunning photos and stories. Oh and congrats!

Tracy, THANK YOU! I so appreciate you understanding that an activity isn't work and thus doesn't need to be stopped during vacation if you love it! I feel a lot more stress when I'm not writing than when I am, and I'm not sure why it's considered fine to read during vacation, but not to write. Anyway, more luscious photos and stories coming up!

Lillie, you had me at "Honeymoon philosophy is that of Cartman from South Park." Love it. And congratulations! What a wonderful place for a honeymoon.

HAH! Glad you approve. It only works if you say it in the Cartman voice. :) Thanks! We are LOVING our choice of Honeymoon country!!!
