Just when our teacher tour thought Nafplio, Greece couldn’t get any more gorgeous and charming, the owner of our hill-top hotel invited us to go orange picking in his private orchard!

We decided to get our hands on those oranges on our last morning in Nafplio, as a heavenly pit-stop on our bus travel back to Athens.

Walk with me now as we pull into the orchard, climb off the bus, scamper past the goats, and revel in the glorious green, orange, blue, and gold of picking fruit in Greece! Oh, and keep your eyes out for some kittens…

And that was our delicious day in Nafplio, the most delightful town in Greece that we toured. Who would have thought that picking fruit would be a highlight of our Greece teacher tour? I’m now adding this as a budget travel secret: For an inexpensive and awesome day activity, find a farm or orchard to cavort around! Fresh air plus fresh fruit equals fantastic-ness.

  3. I wonder if the oranges at Florida or there are better because at both places they have sunshine, hot weather, and people to pick them.

  4. I think that if I found a cat, I would take it home IMMEDIATELY! No second thoughts.

  8. Great Kittens
These oranges must taste better than the ones that are sold in stores. They look more than organic oranges. What would you do if one of those kittens got lost?

  9. This is just too cute! You took a lot of pictures and they’re really good ones, too. Did you ever find out who the kittens belonged to? I wish I could have a kitten. Also, those oranges look really nice and juicy! Do you still have some of the oranges you picked now? If you still have some, you should bring some in. They look really good!

    • Alas, you are not allowed to bring plants (including fruit) across countries without a lot of paperwork (as it has the danger of spreading plant diseases), so we had to leave every single orange in Greece!

  10. I think that field is bigger then the apple farm I go to. Also the oranges looked like they were very juicy, and hard to pull of the tree.

  11. None of the animals seemed to be scared of you!

  12. You now have me craving oranges… AND KITTENS! I have to say that the oranges had a weird shape to them, they looked kind of like plums or pears. I have to ask: How big was the orchard? What made the owner invite you guys to his orchard? I wonder how many oranges there are and how people manage to keep it luscious and full of fruit.

  13. This reminds me of when I went apple picking. It must fun to go orange picking with a kittens. The problem is you have to worry about taking care of the kittens.

  14. How in the world did the kittens get into the orchard? Anyways, they’re so cute! The oranges look very fresh and sweet. I’m jealous of the teachers who got to hug a “stray” animal. -.- :3 Meow!

  16. Wow, I didn’t know you could smell oranges before you open them up. Also, the animals were on the lose with no one watching them? Those kittens were cute too, maybe they were out side cats. Those are really cool pictures Ms. Marshall.

  17. The kittens looked like they wanted to eat the oranges. If I see a kitten in my neighborhood, I want to feed it oranges. Are oranges bad for kittens?

  18. I cannot believe how cute those kittens are! They make me want to jump out of my seat and run to Greece and see those cute kittens! :) By the way, where did the kittens come from? I wonder if they weren’t really kittens at all… but only in disguise………. curious……….. :l (a curious face)

  19. I LOVE ANIMALS! The first thing I saw was a kitten and I didn’t think twice about reading it or not. Those oranges look very delicious and juicy but I’m not a big fan of oranges. I really like the picture of the piece of orange being “winked” by the blue sky, the angle and focus is beautiful! It looks like a nice day there.

  20. OH.MY.KITTENS. The kittens are so cute. They look fluffy. And the orchard is absolutely beautiful.

  21. I want to try one of the oranges there with the kittens and pet them! I love the one that was the soft little kitten. And I really wonder how the oranges taste like…

  29. Did the cats pick any oranges for you?

  38. I have never been orange picking in my life. It looks like a lot of fun. It seems like fun because you get to pick the oranges with kittens. Why were the oranges so hard to pick off the tree?

    • Confession: They weren’t that hard to pick, but I faked difficulty to create a more dramatic photo :)

  39. I have never been orange picking. I have picked apples a lot of time. I love oranges. They are my favorite type of fruit. They are juicy and sweet. Oranges are also very healthy. That is why oranges are my favorite fruit.

  40. How did the oranges taste? It looked like all of the oranges were fresh! Were there any rotten ones?

    • In all orchards there are always some rotten fruits on the ground, but the oranges were in high season so most of them were perfectly ripe!

  41. That cat is so cute! The oranges seem to be oval shaped.

  42. I love cats! I used to have one named oreo and he was one of the best pets I ever had. Do the oranges in Greece taste any different then america?
