“Why are we staying longer in Nafplio than in the other towns in Greece?” we on the Greece Teacher Travel Tour asked our guide, Mara.
Mara smiled knowingly. “You will understand once we arrive,” she replied.
Oh, we soon understood all right. Pictures do far, far more justice to Nafplio than words, so restrain yourself from licking the screen as I walk you through the hills, oceanside, and delicious architecture of this stunning Greek town.

We had a phenomenal writing workshop in the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies led by famed writer, Sarah Ellis. If you look closely you can see drawings on my notepad!

Here is the central town square of Nafplio. Charming! Note the Italian influence on the architecture.

Cafes and palm trees line the walkway as it stretches along the ocean. See the cruise ship in the distance?

This was the staircase up the hill led to our hotel. It helps to be in shape in Nafplio! See the graffiti? Greece has a lot of it, which is upsetting, but in rare cases it looks almost artistic.

This is the view from the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies in Nafplio. Hmm... Why do you think they picked the location for their building? Well done, Harvard.
So what do you think? Would YOU like to visit Nafplio??

Agree. Nafplio was the highlight of our trip to Greece 10 years ago. A lovely town with a laidback atmosphere and friendly vibe. We just adored it!
Glad you loved it, too!
I like the picture with Sarah Ellis because she is famous for writing many books. What books did she write about?
I never knew that Greece was so beautiful! I really want to go and swim in the water, it looks so nice!
I’ve never been to Greece but this looks indeed like a lovely – and somewhat off the beaten path, off the usual travel destinations – town. I’d like to visit someday. Lovely photos too!
Wonderful pictures Ms. Marshall! The Ocean and the streets looks so much cleaner then our own. In Boston there’s litter everywhere and our beach is so murky. And in the first picture the tables look so tiny, it is legit looks very comfortable. P.S I still love the hair. (; ♥
I completely love the streets! The bricked floors look absolutely amazing. The roof tops from the houses are beautiful and that church looked so clean! By the way, I loved the way your hair looked in that bun. I wish mine was as easy to put up.
I never been to a place as beautiful as this town. It look like a combination of modern and old architecture. The water and the streets look so clean.
It seems like a beautiful place, I would love to visit. I Also liked the eighth, ninth, and tenth picture!
Why can’t Boston be this pretty? I wish we can have this beautiful weather in this gloomy city. Mrs. O’ Flaherty is eating breakfast in the first picture and it looks so yummy!
Wow! Nafplio looks so beautiful. It looks like a combination of Brazil, Mexico and Italy. The neighborhood looks safe and the water looks so clean and everything about this place is beyond what words can describe. Your hair looks nice though.
Okay, these pictures were amazing! I love the place with the palm trees. It almost looks like a place in the USA, most likely Miami. The view from the first picture is the best! Wish there was a view like that at my house!
It’s so lovely there. I’ve been on a cruise ship once, I went to the Bahama and other Virgin Islands. But none of those islands can compare to Nafplio.
It was a good choice for you to stay at Nafpolio for a long time tho. The ocean view is gorgeous. Also, I like the way you put your hair up.
I wish Boston looked like this more often. We’re stuck with rain, and windy days. I want some sunshine, and warm weather.
The water looks so clean! Such a a change from the infected Boston Harbor water!
You should wear your hair like that to school! I like it, it looks pretty. The ocean looks nice and relaxing.
I can understand why you stayed at Nafplio longer than all of the other cities in Greece. The pictures that you have shown are so pretty! I especially like the one with the water and the palm trees!
It look so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t know much of anything about Nafplio…great photos and post!
Thanks! Glad to introduce you
I live in Nafplion and just saw about your article in the fb group Center for Hellenic Studies Greece, Harvard. It is a beautiful article about the most beautiful town! Photos are great. I wish you all the best!
Thanks so much, Ivy! So glad the CHS shared it, because they showed us a lovely time. Lucky you for living in Nafplio! I am very curious how it is for folks who spend months there, versus a quick visit.
I heard that Nafpilo is considered to be one of the most charming and romantic towns in Greece. Do you consider to have your wedding there? :]
Ooo, interesting idea! Hard to change plans just 2.5 months before the wedding, though.
It will be in Boston!
The water at the beach is beautiful! I wish I could be there. The water looks nice and warm unlike our copld freezing waters. You are so lucky you stayed there so long to enjoy all those sites.
The pictures of the ocean are absolutely beautiful! I wish we had water like that in New England.
It looks lovely!
Your photos are breath taking! Now I want to travel to Nafplion & see all of Greece.
Thank you! Word is the Greek islands are EVEN MORE beautiful, which I can hardly imagine, but will simply have to find out!
