Welcome to the World, Our Beautiful New Baby!

We are so happy to announce the birth of our baby boy!
We are so happy to welcome our baby!

Oh, hooray!!!!!!! Colin and I are OVERJOYED to announce the birth of our healthy, happy baby boy! Little baby Devi was born this week after 28.5 hours of labor (the first 18 of which were unmedicated -- oh my), and emerged with a lush head of dark hair that the doctor promptly styled into a curled cowlick.

Moments after our baby was born, we were cuddling.

At birth, Devi weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long. Pretty petite for the child of two parents over six feet tall!

We received world-class care for three nights in the hospital, and Colin and I have now arrived back home. Driving Devi up our street for the first time, the wind whipped the dry autumn leaves against our car, and I began sobbing. How miraculous that everything familiar can change in an instant!

Tranquil, moments after an epic spit-up.

Now, we luxuriate in our delicious new baby and new life... and catch whatever sleep we can between feedings and diaper duty.

So much love and appreciation to Colin, who has changed EVERY SINGLE diaper so far. What a phenomenal husband! Colin has also proven to be a true Baby Whisperer, capable of soothing each baby whimper (except for food production, of course) with his magic Dad techniques.

Sticking his tongue out at his uncle...

Colin and I are so thankful to family and friends for the love and support they've shown us and Devi, and for the outpouring of love from all of you.

Welcome to the world, Devi!

It's a good one.

Oh -- and I'm so happy to be done with those strange pregnancy symptoms and funny pregnancy symptoms!

  2. Huge congratulations to you!!!!! Having a baby boy is wonderful. They are so much fun. I don't know what it is about dads and newborns but they seem to be the best at keeping them calmed. I remember longing for the hour when Lee would arrive back at the hospital so the crying would stop.

  3. WOW, OMG!!! Congrats Lillie. He is very handsome. I'm so glad that everything went well and that you are enjoying this precious time with Devi! I'm looking forward to reading about him and your experience. :)

  4. You had a long labor! Lucky for you that you had all those cards from us to read! Congratulation, I am so happy for you! Also I love the name, it so unique! Well have fun for the next couple of months hanging out with that cutie pie!

  5. Congratulations to all. Diane and Estes GRANDPARENTS- hard to believe. I have no doubt that these parents will raise a gracious, kind, peaceful man who will make the world a better place. Devi will thank you for the short name, when he has to write his name on the papers in school! The Green Bay Vineburgs send much love.

    1. Thank you GREAT GREAT cousin Donald. I'm already loving being a nana.

  8. Welcome Devi to our family! You are now part of the ever growing Vineburg clan that started with Colin's great-grandmother and my husband's grandfather. Mazel Tov to the both of you. Rita

  9. And then there were three. Congratulations! That's why they call it "labor", but given all the families with more than one child, there is clearly some amnesia built into the process. Remember---when the baby sleeps, you sleep. Don't do the dishes, don't do the laundry---sleep.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I'm so active on social media that most people suspected what was happening when I disappeared for a time! :)
