Welcome to the World, Our Beautiful New Baby!

We are so happy to announce the birth of our baby boy!
We are so happy to welcome our baby!

Oh, hooray!!!!!!! Colin and I are OVERJOYED to announce the birth of our healthy, happy baby boy! Little baby Devi was born this week after 28.5 hours of labor (the first 18 of which were unmedicated -- oh my), and emerged with a lush head of dark hair that the doctor promptly styled into a curled cowlick.

Moments after our baby was born, we were cuddling.

At birth, Devi weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long. Pretty petite for the child of two parents over six feet tall!

We received world-class care for three nights in the hospital, and Colin and I have now arrived back home. Driving Devi up our street for the first time, the wind whipped the dry autumn leaves against our car, and I began sobbing. How miraculous that everything familiar can change in an instant!

Tranquil, moments after an epic spit-up.

Now, we luxuriate in our delicious new baby and new life... and catch whatever sleep we can between feedings and diaper duty.

So much love and appreciation to Colin, who has changed EVERY SINGLE diaper so far. What a phenomenal husband! Colin has also proven to be a true Baby Whisperer, capable of soothing each baby whimper (except for food production, of course) with his magic Dad techniques.

Colin and I are so thankful to family and friends for the love and support they've shown us and Devi, and for the outpouring of love from all of you.

Welcome to the world, Devi!

It's a good one.

Oh -- and I'm so happy to be done with those strange pregnancy symptoms and funny pregnancy symptoms!

  1. (Even though I'm a "little" late) Congratulations Ms. Marshall and welcome to world baby Devi, honestly, you are one lucky kid to have a mom like Ms. Marshall. I just wonder how tall you'll grow, LOL. Again, congratulations!

  2. Lillie, I am just catching up on my email. Congratulations! The baby is beautiful. I just became a grandmother for the first time on the 21st, so I know what you mean about everything changing. I wish you and your family every happiness.

  3. I forget if I ever said this somewhere already but anyways here I go again just in case: congrats to you and your husband on your new arrival! Also you look so great in these pictures. Reminds me of Kate Middleton when she stepped out of the hospital to show off baby George. She looked fresh as a daisy too just hours after giving birth!

    1. Thanks so much! I certainly didn't feel daisy-like for the first week afterwards, but the recovery has been pretty remarkable. Go human bodies, go!

  4. Congrats. Now, you're in for it... For the next 40 years! Enjoy! They are only young once. So get all you can out if it.

  5. Congratulations Ms. Marshall! What a blessing Devi will bring to you both. My niece was born on the 24th and it's amazing to watch babies grow each and every day!

  6. Congratulations Lillie and Colin! Devi is gorgeous, like Mom and Dad. I'll be curious to see where he will travel first!

  7. Oh, my gosh! He is so adorable and cute! I just love how small a newborn's finger is and their nails are, too! I bet he will be a lot like you. I hope you enjoy figuring motherhood out. Just a little bit of advice coming from some one who knows because she is young, do not be TOO over protective. I can't stand it when my mom is over protective. Congrats! :) :-)

  8. Congratulations guys and welcome to the world of traveling families!

Life will be, umm, different for the next few months as you two figure out who now sets the schedule for the next year.

    Here's a hint, they weren't around a few weeks ago. ;)

    Good luck and congrats again!
