Crazy artistic chocolates on our tour in Boston. “Passionfruit coated in Dark Chocolate?” Yes please.
When someone asks, “Want to go on a chocolate tour?” you scream, “YES! YES!” then do a crazed dance around your house, squealing with joy. This is what happened to me thanks to Hiphost Tours and their Chocolate Tour of Boston. Little did I know the awkward moment it would cause.
Our Chocolate Guide in a beautiful Boston store, introducing our first samples.
The first Chocolate Destination of the tour was Beacon Hill Chocolates (by the MGH stop on the Red Line) where all these luscious photos were snapped. Our guide, Bill, brought us to the back of the store where chocolate samples awaited slaughter by our teeth.
My #1 favorite of the chocolates we sampled: Salted dark chocolate caramel. WOW!
The first sample was a fluffy chocolate cube, but the highlight of my night is pictured above: Salted dark chocolate wrapped around rich caramel. I snapped fifteen awkward photos of myself while my taste buds belted operas of joy. Then suddenly… (WARNING: Awkward moment coming.)
Savoring every molecule of that delicious chocolate sample… right before an awkward encounter.
…”Um, Lillie?” said my friend Eli who randomly walked in the store at that moment. “What the heck are you doing? Are you taking photos of yourself eating chocolate? Seriously?!”
So many chocolate choices! Good, because chocolate allays awkwardness.
“Oh, hi Eli!” I gasped, turning red and lowering my camera. Crumbs of chocolate flaked from the corners of my mouth. “I’m… I’m on a Chocolate Tour!” Eli gaped in disbelief. Trust me: You don’t quite realize how awkward it is to explain to someone that you’re on a Chocolate Tour until you do it.
Hilarious. True, everything is better when round and dipped in chocolate. Even shame.
I felt it all: Guilt, shame, giggles, and then… hunger. I was embarrassed, but ultimately, my soul craved another salted dark chocolate caramel more than it craved pride. Eli shook his head in disbelief and left to meet his wife, toting a tasteful bag of chocolate.
Chocolate as a greeting card, but tastier. Is there one for, “Sorry I was weird when I bumped into you?”
The embarrassment was short-lived, because then I discovered the hippo-shaped chocolates! I bumped my nose on the glass leaning in to kiss those sweet pink nosies. Oink, oink, burp!

Our tour was a special group: all Boston-area bloggers (so fancy to be invited on a press trip!), mostly young, social media-savvy ladies. Gaze at the photo below and see the seriousness with which all attendees Tweeted, Instagram-ed, and Facebooked the heck out of the tour. All while eating powerfully, of course!
The other bloggers on the tour were very busy eating and Tweeting.

Lillie, OMG, these chocolates look AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love chocolate so much and they all look so beautiful. My soul is craving some of these as well. I would like to try the hippos simply because I’ve never had a pink chocolate hippo before!

I’m a HUGE sucker for chocolate! I think I would definitely love this place. The only problem is they all look like they were created with such fine detail that I would feel bad devouring it all down!
