Mont Tremblant is Quebec, Canada's Family Playground!

Looking for a fun family vacation destination in Canada's province of Quebec? Mont Tremblant blew our minds with the plethora of activities it offers year-round. Most people associate the town with skiing and hot cocoa, but summer amusements abound like crazy!

Want giant trampolines, climbing walls, and mountain luges? Mont Tremblant's got 'em. Desire tranquil mountain nature and glistening swimming pools and lakes? Check and check. Crave sky-high gondolas to take in the scene? Tremblant's got you covered!

What I didn't realize until our Montreal to Quebec City escapades was how close the province's goodies are for New Englanders like myself. Mont Tremblant is located just 6 hours from Boston and 7 from New York, and it pairs fabulously with a road trip including Montreal (1.5 hours from Tremblant) and Quebec City (3.5 hours away), which is the route we took.

So of all the offerings, what was our favorite activity in Mont Tremblant? Hands-down, the giant gondola up the mountain! We did the 15-minute ride four times, squealing at the views the whole way.

After the big-city bustle of Montreal, the emerald green trees and fresh air of Mont Tremblant were deeply cleansing. Nature, baby -- nature!

I was secretly pregnant with Devi's sister at the time, so couldn't rock out the mountain hikes as much as I might have, but simply being near all that greenery was revitalizing.

At the top of Tremblant's mountain sits some excellent entertainment. First, of course, there are the views: Lakes nestled between the Laurentian Mountain range, with the colorful village far below.

In addition to the central building, which boasts a sweet place to eat, and room run around if the weather turns crummy, do not miss the Birds of Prey Show. Click through that link to see the photos I got during the show of hawks, owls, eagles, and vultures cavorting through the crowd!

"This nature business is all well and good," you may be grumbling, "but what about that giant trampoline and mountain luge you mentioned in the first paragraph, ma'am?" Good question.

Basically, families can purchase different packages with multiple rides on selected activities. I can't tell you how much I wanted to zip down the hill on that mountain luge, but pregnant ladies aren't allowed for safety reasons! I'll just have to go back and try it sometime...

Another thing my pregnant self couldn't partake in -- but very much wanted to -- was this bungee bouncy giant trampoline pictured below. You should have seen the kids and adults doing quadruple backflips on it!

So where should one rest one's head whilst frolicking around Mont Tremblant? Our family stayed in the famed (affiliate link) Fairmont Tremblant hotel (click for rates and availability) and greatly enjoyed it, from the plush, family-friendly rooms, to the inviting swimming pools.

A note, now, on the architecture of Mont Tremblant's village. You'll note that the colors and shapes of the buildings are extremely playful and fun, to an extent that is rarely seen, right? Well, the idea of the design is to echo the style of gorgeous Old Quebec City, but amplify the colors and sweetness for an almost fantasy-land feel.

Given that the entire central village of Mont Tremblant is pedestrian only -- keep out, cars! -- the relaxed fantasy feel is even more lovely and pronounced for a stressed city gal like me.

Still want more entertainment? You're in luck! July (when we visited) is the Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival, and boasts over 100 concerts. As we munched our dinner in open-air patios each night, we were serenaded by heart-felt tunes.

Want yet more entertainment? Perusing the Mont Tremblant website, I'm realizing that we missed out on multiple Ironman competitions (too bad -- my pregnant belly and I would have won), casino gambling, food festivals, and a whole lot more. Impressive diversification for a spot that used to be known only for skiing!

So what about you? Have you been to Mont Tremblant? If so, how was it? If not, does it seem like a place you'd like to visit? What activities most appeal? Do share!

Hi Lillie,
I'm just back to the friends' blogs after a long absence and what I just read here made me feel I want to be on top of Mont Tremblant and have a coffee while sitting at the window overlooking the beautiful landscape there.
